FUTURE PLANET PREDICTION TECHNOLOGY TO HELP QUANTIFY ESG GOALS

More so than ever, we are faced with the need to re-examine how to better respond to the world’s challenges, including climate change, poverty and other social issues.

Solving these problems requires an approach that effectively integrates environmental, social and economic factors with more feasible and quantifiable solutions. What if governments, organizations and businesses could better tailor and predict the impact of their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies?

ESG strategy and management are among the most important factors for today’s investment decisions. As organizations look to become leaders in sustainability, many struggle to connect what action they need to take and the related impact on the environment.

NTT is working to solve this problem by researching and developing ESG management science and technology, focusing on minimizing business risk by using future prediction and transformation.

Next-generation, energy-efficient technologies are beginning to look more feasible. Expectations for Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN) are high as it promises to break through the limitations of what we have today and put less burden on the environment. These new ways of gathering and learning from data offer deep insights into forecasting.

A MORE PROACTIVE APPROACH TO HELPING ORGANIZATIONS IMPROVE THE PLANET

We are studying how to predict what actions need to be taken to enhance corporate ESG value and present improved future scenarios.

NTT Space Environment and Energy Laboratories team is drawing on digital twin computing to analyze scientific data about the environment and society to predict the future.

NTT is currently exploring a concept to model the earth’s atmosphere, ocean, weather and climate and its effects on human, social and economic outcomes.

This allows the simulation to pull a lever or add various inputs to forecast social behavior and/or potential policies that are more likely to positively impact the environment.

We are replicating earth’s ecosystem to create a simulation that reproduces the past, present and future of earth in cyberspace to reveal a more optimized regenerative path forward. The research project is complex and the approach integrates ESG factors alongside earth regeneration simulation technologies, covering everything from wellbeing parameters to land, sea and space factors.

For example, the model could predict environmental outcomes based on remote working, online shopping and online education. We can calculate the ecological loads of reduced greenhouse emissions and identify the areas that accelerate or reduce carbon output. The research teams are also paying attention to the harmful effects of ICT reliance and creating better options that reduce the burden on energy grids.

Looking forward, NTT is building a technical foundation for future environmental prediction to improve corporate value and wellbeing. We aim to help organizations with tools to make better decisions that lead to a more sustainable world through these efforts.
