The world is undergoing a food waste crisis on an unprecedented scale. If food waste were to be a country it would be the third biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions. The European Union (EU) is no exception to this problem.
Litter has become a global environmental issue polluting the natural world and harming wildlife. Not only is litter unsightly, it is also costly to remove, and can be a source of tension leading to conflict. Litter often contains hazardous chemicals that bleed toxins into the soil while creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Plogging is a relatively new eco-friendly exercise that first started about five years ago. Erik Ahlström from Sweden organized an activity that combined jogging or brisk walking with picking up litter and the activity of plogging began.
By day Beth can be found working for NTT in customer experience. Come the weekend, Beth changes gear, working to support a local bird sanctuary. As a keen ornithologist, Beth is a committed champion of all things sustainability related.
Five years ago, one employee from NTT DATA decided to give nature a helping hand, restoring the original ecosystem of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
