Keeping people safe during a pandemic
COVID-19 has brought the world to a standstill. Laboratoires Réunis teamed up with NTT to implement a 20,000 daily Covid-19 testing process to manage the disease's spread and address this social challenge

With much of Europe facing a potentially larger second wave of COVID-19, the government of Luxembourg had to act quickly. In just four weeks, Laboratoires Réunis, working with NTT, provided the systems and process for over 20,000 daily nationwide tests.

Challenge:
Luxembourg is located in the heart of Europe and has 185,000 commuters coming in every day. With the second wave of COVID-19 approaching, the question was, how could a severe second wave be prevented. While the extent of the wave is still unknown, what is known is that mass-scale testing across the country can bring clarity to support critical actions, help with contact tracing programs, and reduce the spread of the disease.
Solution:
17 new drive-in testing stations across the country provided the necessary mass-scale testing. The government of Luxembourg asked Laboratoires Réunis to create the IT system needed to process the incoming tests and had just four weeks to implement this solution. The system had to be high performance, scalable, and capable of handling large amounts of data while respecting the public’s right to privacy, in line with GDPR rules. Laboratoires Réunis turned to NTT, where together they created an entirely digitized cloud solution.
Result:
20,000 tests a day were processed with results available within 24 hours. Hotspots could be discovered with speed, allowing Luxembourg to detect any rise in infections earlier than its European neighbors. By taking these actions, potential infections were reduced, and the spread of the deadly disease was slowed. They hope that this will provide a blueprint for other countries in Europe, showing how they can effectively do mass testing.
